The Stanley Parrot Foundation was created in 2006 after the loss of a beloved member of the family. Stanley, a moluccan cockatoo, had been a member of our family for 2 years.
We had purchased him from a parrot shop near our home. He came with an awesome personality, incredable voice and a small stuffed caterpillar that had come from his previous home. He would hold that stuffed toy much like a child would and sleep with it on occasion. Stanley eventually destroyed the toy like parrots do. He unfortunately ingested some of the stuffing and it caused a blockage in his digestive system which needed to be surgically removed. He did well with the surgery, when he came home we slept beside his cage for 3 or 4 nights. However he aspirated some food or water and got pneumonia. I rushed him to the vet however he passed away in my arms.
Since that terrible accident we have tried to help educate parrot owners and to help these awesome creatures find new homes when their humans pass away or can no longer care for them. Our passion is to help educateowners and re-home needy parrots. We work on donations and adoption fees. It is necessary to charge adoption fees to help cover costs of food, toys and vet bills. Did you know that parrots require fresh fruits, vegetables, grains and proteins like fish and chicken. They should also havea good pellet diet with minimal seed
